“Gaalipatam ” is an out and out a romantic comedy with a message in it. Let us see how good the debutante director Naveen Gandhi has flied his “Kite” and lets take a look if it reached the audience’s expectations.

Story:

Karthee (Aadi) and Swathi( Erica Fernandes) are a couple who got married to each other which was arranged by both of their parents. Both are into IT ,who work together in the same company, which is owned by Ram (Bharat Reddy),co-brother of Karthee and brother in-law for Swathi,as Swetha(Bhargavi) ,Ram’s wife is Swathi’s sister . Both Karthee and Swathi have ego problems as they both think that they make a good couple because of them only. They get an ego clash one day, when they both are selected as the best couple of their company. Then they both start blaming each other for spoiling their lives and repent that they shouldn’t have gone for arranged marriage. And then they reveal their affairs to each other which they both had before their marriage. Then they both start recollecting those happier times they had spent with their respective ex’s ,with which the story enters the second plot.

Aarav Reddy(Rahul Ravindran) is a classmate of Swathi ,who keeps loving her since many years despite of her being rejecting his love on number of occasions. On the other side, Parinithi( Kristina Akheeva) is a very matured and present generation’s girl who has her own individuality, decision making power. She is very much practical ,who has no interest in the concept of marriage but supports living together system. Both Karthee – Parinithi, and Aarav – Swathi has many difference of opinions, and also their ideologies completely differ from each other’s obviously.

But still, Parinithi falls in love with Ram ,but not Swathi falls for Aarav. There comes a stage at the end of Karthee and Swathi’s flashback, where in their elapsed love stories stimulate both of them and make them decide that their respective ex’s are good enough to live together . Hence , both Karthee and Swathi decides to get separated and then decide to get back to their ex’s and move on with them.

Later, what would they do after getting back to their ex’s and do Karthee and Swathi get separated or not ? How does Karthee,Aarav,Swathi and Parinithi’s love end up forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

“Gaalipatam” is a good attempt by the director Naveen Gandhi, who wisely chose a burning issue of youth who suffer with a dilemma whether to go for an arranged or love marriage. Though “Gaalipatam” seems to have inspired from different movies which came earlier in the same lines of conflict of minds choosing in love and arranged marriage, “Gaalipatam” still serves the purpose of the point chosen,in a convincing manner.

Naveen Gandhi is bold enough to deal with the point till the end in an effective way with some good twists at the pre-interval and in the climax . But he seems to have got confused in conceiving the story to perfection, written by Sampath Nandi . One way ,director has shown that his main characters are completely matured ,but the other way he has shown their fickle-mindedness in choosing their partners of their lives, which might irk the audience and might confuse then a little bit.

Sampath Nandi has chosen a controversial subject, in which he has written some bold scenes which are obviously not accepted by the society . Story seems to have lacking the clarity in the second half, though the first half engages you with some healthy comedy and of course with some “Maruthi”mark weird dialogues and scenes too. When it comes to the second half, there were few unnecessary scenes like Jabardasth comedy track etc, which has pulled down the pace of the story and was not related to the story at all.

Performances:

-Aadi has done a decent job, better than his previous disaster “Pyaar mein padipoyane”.

-Erica Fernandes is just okay in bits and pieces, but really makes audience feel sorry with her dumb expressions on many occasions.

-So with Kristina ,who is good looking but failed to deliver the goods with her acting.

-Sapthagiri as a service boy has entertained the audience and make them really laugh with his cameo.

-Interestingly, Bhargavi as Ram(Bharath Reddy’s wife) grabbed the attention with her natural acting than the rest of the supporting characters.

-Last but not the least, Rahul Ravindran as Aarav Reddy has done nothing special as he looked he was extending his role from “Andala Rakshasi”.

Technical Aspects:

-Bold story which is failed to be presented in tact.

-Few dialogues were blasted well like ” Ammayi RTC bus lantidi..okati pothe inkokati vastundi…Abbayi auto lantivadu…okati pilisthe padi vasthay”,which are applauded by the audience as the youth get connected to such witty dialogues so easily. And there were many other dialogues which were absolutely not necessary and gives an impression to be written as punch dialogues. “Manishi ontlo blood untundi….Communism lo Red Untundi….” “Nenu customs gurinchi matladatledu…ma intlo vachina kashtam gurinchi matladutunnanu..” are few to mention.

-But Bheems music is a good breather and refreshing than anything else out of the movie.

-Direction by Naveen Gandhi,is just okay.

-Production values by Sampath Nandi and co are good.

Strengths:

-Aadi and Erica’s acting to some extent

-Music by Bheems

-Good visuals by Bujji.K

-Good and bold Dialogues in bits and pieces

Weaknesses:

-Story

-Direction

-Irrelevant dialogues and comedy scenes in the second half

Final verdict:

Affordable one time watch without and second thought.
